61. What is the procedure for taking admission in NIOS?
The Admissions for NIOS are open throughout the year. The admission forms are only available online. Procedure for Online Admission Directly by Learners The procedure for On-line Admission for all above four streams is as follows: There are four streams of On-line admission catering to the learners with different needs. The admissions in these four streams are mutually exclusive i.e., the learner can only opt for one of them. Online Admission for all learners (Stream 1): This stream for On-line Admission is open for all the learners as per the laid down eligibility criteria for Secondary and Senior Secondary level. Learners taking admission through On-line under Stream-1 will be attached to the AI (Study Centre) as opted by them at the time of admission and will be eligible for TOC as per conditions
62. What are the eligibility criteria for admission to the Secondary Course?
Secondary Course is equivalent to the Xth standard. However, you will be required to successfully complete a minimum of five subjects, which is compulsory for certification. Secondary Course Eligibility Criteria 2015 Requirement: Certificate of Class VIII passed, or Self Certificate Valid proof of attaining 14 years of age can apply for registration to a Secondary Course A residential proof of applicant.
63. What is the valid proof of date of birth?
As per the new provisions all candidates, irrespective of whether they were born on or before January 26, 1989, may submit an attested copy of the birth certificate issued by a municipal authority or by the Registrar of Births and Deaths. They can also submit an attested copy of the date of birth certificate from the school last attended Or Transfer certificate or affidavit sworn before a first class magistrate stating nationality and the date of birth.
64. Does NIOS allow any fees concession?
Yes, there is the concession for nios fees, but only to PWD and SC/ST students. No Concession for general category Concession in fee to SC/ST candidates: The SC/ST students are given concession in admission fees to the extent of Rs.450/- for Secondary Courses and Rs.525/- for Senior Secondary Courses. Concession: 50% concession in fees is given.
65. How many subjects are required to be taken for obtaining the pass certificate?
The stress in NIOS is to bring out the best in you. Every subject is not equally difficult for you. You can learn some subjects very well, maybe in six months, whereas some require more than a year. Keeping this in mind, NIOS allows you to appear in or two subjects, so to build confidence in you of doing well in the examination. You can take some more subjects in the next examination but do well in each. As soon as you complete the required number of subjects, you get your certificate.
66. What are the mediums of studies available in NIOS?
Choice of Medium of Instructions: NIOS offers its courses mainly in English, Hindi and Urdu mediums. Secondary Course: At Secondary level, the course is offered in Regional Mediums also besides these mediums. The choice of medium is also available in Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Malayalam and Oriya mediums in addition to English, Hindi and Urdu mediums. The learner is free to choose any one of these mediums for studies. Sr.Secondary Course: At Sr.Secondary level, the course is offered only Hindi, English, Urdu mediums. The learner is free to choose any one of these mediums for studies.
67. What is the Minimum age to take admission in the Senior Secondary Course?
Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for admission. You have to submit a valid date of birth proof for verification along with the application. However, the minimum age for enrollment for the Secondary course: Completed 14 years of age and for the Senior Secondary course: 15th year as on 31st January 2016. Secondary (class X) passed from any recognized board.
68. Can any learner take direct admission in the Senior Secondary courses?
No, the senior secondary is equivalent to 12th, the learner cannot take admission in senior secondary without passing out in his secondary exam or 10th from any recognized board institute. Any student who has acquired a minimum age of 14 years can appear for regular exams by NIOS and can appear for 12th exam after a minimum gap of 2 years after the 10th exam.
69. What is the validity period for admission?
The validity of NIOS Admission Your admission is valid for five years. For Public Examination at Secondary and Senior Secondary level, you may take nine or fewer chances to successfully complete the course during this period. Once registered it is valid for 5 years for both secondary and senior secondary. Part Admission Under this scheme, you may take admission in one or more subjects but not more than four subjects. On passing, you will be issued only the Marksheet.
70. How do students get confirmation of their admission?
No E-Confirmation of Admission Admission to a particular course is normally confirmed by NIOS by issuing an Identity Card having your admission particulars as per the record available in NIOS. If any discrepancy is noticed at any stage of admission even if the Identity Card is issued, the admission will be canceled and the result will not be declared even if appeared in the examination.
71. Is there any provision for correction in admission record?
Yes, the correction will be done as per guidance hosted on NIOS website. Procedure for Correction in the Admission Records The Admission to a particular course is normally confirmed by NIOS by issuing an Identity Card having details of learner's admission particulars as per the record available in NIOS.
72. Do NIOS issue duplicate identity card?

76. Re examination fees of nios is taken or not?
Yes, re-examination fees are held as per the subject wise. It is calculated as per the subject, which you have chosen for examination. 77. Will Every State Government approve certificates of NIOS?
Education being a concurrent subject as per Indian Constitution, state Governments are bound to recognize the certificates issued by a Union Government Institution. Hence many courts issued orders to clarify this.Certificates issued by NIOS are accepted for higher education, Govt. jobs, and all other purposes. Also, the certificate issued by NIOS are accepted by all the National/State Boards. However, in certain cases, various Boards have fixed eligibility criteria based on their specific requirements. Hence, the candidate seeking admission in NIOS may go through the latest eligibility criteria of different Boards.
78. Why State Governments shall recognize NIOS certificates at all?
The Government of India has set up the National Open School Society, an autonomous and registered body on 23rd November 1989 to cater to the educational needs of school dropouts, working adults, housewives and socially disadvantaged sections, through distance education at the school stage. The Society runs the management of the National Open School which, through distance and open learning system, has been offering courses, preparing students for the Secondary and Senior Secondary School Examinations and also offers Bridge (Preparatory) Courses.

Yes, The secondary and Sr. secondary degree certificates issued from nios have the same recognition as certificates issued by other boards like CBSE and UP Boards. NIOS is vested with the authority to conduct public Examinations at secondary and Sr. secondary level vide Govt. of India's resolution dated 14 September 1990.
